Interfacial Solutions today announces a research and development collaboration with Magma Composites to commercialize novel micronized volcanic ash composites. The research collaboration will focus on bringing material science and manufacturing process innovations to a novel class of micronized volcanic ash polymer composite resins.

“Interfacial Solutions has worked for some time with micronized volcanic ash and has found that when properly formulated the result is some very unique resin properties” said CTO and Founder Dr. Jeffrey Cernohous. “Polymer resins made from micronized volcanic ash possess extremely low coefficients of thermal expansion and are surprisingly ductile and tough. Magma Composites has recently taken an exclusive license to intellectual property that is held by Interfacial Solutions IP, and we will collaboratively be exploring methods to cost effectively manufacture these composite resins into sheets that can be used, among other purposes, as cost-effective and durable replacements to plywood used as concrete forms.”
